Google with the service Gmail has one of the best Spam protections on the market and the fact that it is free just makes it better.
Did you know you can use Gmail as your own mail server for IMAP, POP, Mail forwarding and more?
Step 1) Go to Google Apps and sign up for a normal account for your domain, like yourdomain.com. Google will then give you access to the control panel.
Step 2) As usual Google need to know that you actually own the domain so before you do anything follow their instructions to verify it.
Step 3) You are almost ready to send email from Google server. You need to sign in to your domain hosting service and go to the DNS panel for your domain and add the following to the MX (Mail Exchanger) section. If you do not know how to do this please ask someone.

If hosting provider allowing only one or three MX, then choose first 1 or 3.
Step 4) The MX will take a few hours to work. There will be a default email address which ever you passed while signing up this will be master account. You can always create new email account by going to “User accounts>> Create a new user†and add new email account.
Step 5) In the “Service settings >> Email†menu you can change web addresses for accessing Email. For this create a CNAME and modify URL. This URL can be used to login to mail box (ie: click on “Service settings >> Email†menu and change the default web address to http://email.yourdomain.com or whatever you used for CNAME)
To use the custom URL email.yourdomain.com, you must change the CNAME record with your domain host.
a) Sign in to your domain hosting service.
b) Navigate to your DNS Management page. Generally be found in Domain Management or Advanced Settings, if not you need to contact your Hosting providers to set this.
c) Find the CNAME settings and enter the following as the CNAME value or alias:
‘email’
d) Set the CNAME destination to the following address:
‘ghs.google.com’
Google and AOL buddies in chat
Google and AOL have become buddies when they allow Gmail chat users to chat with AOL chatters. Google and AOL has worked together on this for some time now and Gmail users will keep the same functions as they had and just added that they can not chat with AOL users.
It was sometimes now someone launched a new chat platform like SKYPE and I think that market is easier to digg into if you have a great product. To launch Google now on he search market is pretty impossible.
Google Gmail now offers 4 GB of quality storage with your own advertising on the side. You have 4 GB to save all those emails you not reading. I use my Gmail as a spam collector in one Gmail I have over 13 000 unread emails and I know someday I will read them and Gmail give me a good quality place to save them.
One other option is to let Google Gmail spam filter take away the nasty emails and then use your POP account or any other email account and download the emails now spam free.
Google Mail
Google mail refers to the e-mail or webmail service supported by Google. It is usually referred to as Gmail. Initially, Google mail was a private service where one could become an e-mail account holder only if invited by an existing Google mail account holder. However, this is no more the case, and earlier in 2007, Google mail has emerged as a public domain like Yahoo, MSN, Rediff etc. In the beginning Google mail offered a storage capacity of 1GB which has been increased to 2GB recently.
Once signed in Google mail, one can send, forward and receive messages. Attachments can also be sent easily and faster through Google mail. All messages sent are saved in the ‘sent messages’ folder and can be viewed later and forwarded to other web addresses. In fact, even while one is composing a mail, a draft is autosaved after a stipulated period of a few seconds, so that in case one loses the contents of his writing, it will be possible to revive it from the drafts folder. Also, it must be mentioned that all e-mail addresses where the mails are sent are automatically added to the address book in Google mail in an alphabetical order. Most Orkut users are intimated about an entry in their ‘scrapbooks’ or new friend requests through their Google mail accounts usually. All spam messages are deleted instantly after a period of thirty days has commenced. The chat window in Google mail allows chatting with Google Talk users as well as other Gmail users without necessarily downloading Gmail.
